Junkyrd’s debut almost never saw the light of day. The original album was written during a time when Junkyrd was homeless and drifting between cities, selling art and working odd jobs to get by. Many of the tracks originated as phone memos and scribbled notes in sketchbooks before being properly arranged and recorded. Prior to the album being completed, an unforeseen event resulted in the destruction of the recordings and the original album was lost forever.

JUNKTAPE 001 is the remains of that original album, reconstructed with the help of producers Nendo and xolotl from various demos that had been circulating in the community. Drawing influence from the work of Mike Chav on Jay Electronica’s Act I: Eternal Sunshine, the mixtape combines aspects of hip-hop, spoken word, lo-fi and free jazz in a way that ultimately revels in its sonic volatility.
